This project was done through Vocalzr where I met Shayna. She won the bid as I really like her vocals. It took us a while but we pushed on to get it delivered. Like most of my work, the song is organic sounding, with a bit of a 90s feel to it.

Theme:

Things often seem to be better on the other side. This stepper Reggae number is full of interesting content, and gets you in an up beat mood quick.

Background:

This track was heavily influenced by the classic Wicked Game, from Chris Isaak and it is quite obvious. It is a single from my band, After Hours and sang by my old friend Johnny Daniels. It has a simple arrangement and only a few instruments, with me playing the alto sax between verses, and featuring a solo later in the song. This was the first song ever released by After Hours online, and paved the way for the recording future of the band.

Theme:

The song is about a person that has lost hope while waiting for things to change for the better. The one thing you can depend on is for others to let you down.

Background:

Being always willing to try new challenges, Mavin agreed earlier to perform this funk style number. When I finally received his vocals and started to do the mixing, I could see that he worked really hard to fill up the sound with plenty of attitude - just as I wanted it 😎 Don't worry, this groove will for sure not give you any kind of a hangover! So go ahead...put it on repeat 🙂

Nope, not about cheap liquor at all actually, rather a person that got caught up in being misused, but ultimately and weirdly seems to kind of OK with it.

Background:

I found Kelly Bosco on Sound Cloud, she is from the UK and offered to perform the vocals on this track. It's clear that she has a passion for singing, and I was impressed with her courage to never give up until it was just right. Her hard work paid off and this project turned out to be quite something. Like a lot of my stuff it has a retro feel to it, but Kelly was cool with that idea.

The song is about being happy, despite what life throws at us.

20 FEB 2017 Completed production of Safe for Mavin

 

Background:

Mavin wanted to redo his song "Safe", and wanted it to express a lot of emotion. I created the new music for it, and played a few notes on a Fender Stratocaster guitar to add some ambience. A bit of my alto saxophone also helped to get the groove just right. Mavin meanwhile wrote new lyrics. We ended up with a new melody and some vocal  improvisation to convey the song's message effectively. We pretty much created a totally new song.

Theme:

The song is a tranquil but deeply emotional track of one lover giving assurance to the other.

Background:

I found Andy on SoundCloud. He is a brilliant finger picking guitarist and I offered to create this production for him. It took a couple of rounds for us to align with the music, and ultimately this deep ballad came to life.

Theme:

The song is about a person that made a few wrong turns in life, based on a true story from what I understand. This track is very special to Andy so I really did my best. At the end it paid off: Andy expressed how great the track turned out, and mentioned some of the detail in the music that most people would not even notice.
